The Pörner Bitumen Packing System (PBPS) is a comprehensive cold bitumen logistic/supply chain solution from A to Z for the bitumen industry. It addresses all aspects of the bitumen producer, the logistics, the distributor and the end-user.
PBPS' core element is the Pörner Bitumen Bag™, a light-weight, durable and flexible bag optimized for container transport that enables a number of economic and logistic advantages for the entire supply chain. With its unparalleled features, PBPS can increase the producer's margins, reduce transport cost and reach markets that could not be supplied economical so far.
Furthermore, with PBPS, Bitumen can be stored at virtually no cost. Huge investments in terminals and storage infrastructure become obsolete.

The Pörner Bitumen Packing System (PBPS) is, despite its simplicity and benefits, an expert system and is flexible to adjust to your particular requirements. Therefore, the approach for implementation is a case-to-case-solution for the supply chain structure of each client.
Our sales representatives will gladly answer all your questions and explain the solution to you in detail. Please provide us with your basic parameters (e.g. volume, products, locations etc.) and we will get in touch with you to evaluate the feasibility of the PBPS for your needs. Please send an e-mail to bitumenbag@poerner.at and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
The Cooling & Packing Unit (CPU) cools the ready bitumen to packing temperature for a stable, safe and continuous operation. The bitumen is then filled electronically controlled into the Pörner Bitumen Bag™ to provide exact weighing and monitoring. Each bag is marked with an unique serial number and bar code for registration of the product and individual weight of each bag.
The CPU is ideally positioned near the bitumen production plant and can be supplied by a pipeline or tankers. It is a compact semi-automatic process plant that does not require much space and can be placed in the vicinity of the bitumen production facility (or even within the premises as an add-on).
| Nominal capacity | 10 MT (metric tons) filling per hour and unit; up to 80,000 TPA (tons per annum) with continuous operation per unit |
| Typical investment | case-to-case, depends on project. Please contact our sales representatives for further information. |
| Recommended space requirement | Unit: 250 sqm each, Colling & Storage: 3,000 sqm per unit |
| Personnel requirement (recommended) | 3 per shift, Forklift required |

The patented innovative Pörner Bitumen Bag™ is a self-stabilizing container made of plastic material, consisting of a multi-layer outer bag (recyclable) and an inner liner special-purpose film. The liner is melted together with the bitumen without changing its quality properties. The latest generation of bags includes a simple frame structure for extra stabilization to accommodate the larger mass.
The Pörner Bitumen Bag™ is designed to carry up to 1,300 kg of road paving bitumen and comes in different sizes to fit the customers’ requirements. Its shape and volume is optimized for maximum utilization of containers and trucks.
The bag can be transported by any common transport system (container, truck, rail) and is a one-way logistic solution. Therefore, the transporter can be utilized for other cargo on its return. The bag features UV-light protection and is suitable for every climate zone. It can be stored for up to 12 months*.
| Capacity | up to 1,300 kg gross weight |
| Surface (filled) | approx. 1.2 sqm |
| Empty weight | approx. 15 kg including outer bag, inner liner and frame structure |
| Available sizes (gross weight) | P1.1 (up to 1,100 kg) - P1.2 (up to 1,200 kg) - P1.3 (up to 1,300 kg) |
| Materials | Polypropylene (outer bag*), Polyethylene (liner), metal (frame*) |
At the end of the supply chain, the bitumen has to be re-liquefied for final application. This is accomplished by the Pörner High-Performance Melting Unit (HPM), which is the central element of a Melting Terminal.
The Melting Terminals substitute depots and bitumen terminals and are a cost-effective alternative to expensive conventional infrastructure with a small one-time investment. Instead of heated tanks or inefficient drum decanters, the Melting Terminal only requires a flat, compacted storage area and at least one HPM.
The HPM is probably the most efficient bitumen melting facility and has been designed by Pörner process engineers. Its central component is a melting grid with high-tech heat distribution and heat recovery. It can be operated by just one person. It requires either form of energy available, e.g. Diesel, paraffin or gas. Consumption is as low as four liters of Diesel (or energy equivalent) per melted ton of bitumen, depending on ambient temperature.
Pörner Bitumen is a subsidiary of the Pörner Group and operates Melting Terminals in several countries as well as trades with bitumen.
We also offer cooperation schemes for trading, distribution of product and operation of the Melting Terminals. This is particularly interesting for producers that do not want to get involved in the distribution process themselves or handle operations in target markets, but rather use the PBPS as producer and for packing to expand their market reach.
